Mauritius is an upper-middle-income island economy in the Indian Ocean with a diversified portfolio spanning financial services, tourism, textiles, and sugar processing. Real GDP per capita reached $27,300 in 2024 on a purchasing power parity basis, among the highest in Africa. Services generate 64.4 percent of output, industry 17.8 percent, and agriculture 4.3 percent (OpenFactBook, 2024 est.). Real GDP grew 4.7 percent in 2024, following 5 percent in 2023 and 8.7 percent in 2022 as tourism recovered from the pandemic. Top exports include fish, garments, raw sugar, fertilizers, and diamonds.

The revision was published in the Government Gazette on 17 January 2026 and deemed effective from 1 January 2026. At the 2024 average exchange rate of 46.415 rupees per US dollar, the new floor equals roughly $382 per month.
